Ever since astounding audiences and critics alike with her
breakthrough performance in David Lynch's award winning "Mulholland Drive,"
Laura Harring has been one of Hollywood's hottest stars. The international Herald
Tribune has compared her to Ava Gardner and film critics Roger Ebert and Philip
Lopate likened her to Rita Hayworth. She received an Alma Award for Outstanding
Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in "Mulholland Drive" and
a Golden Eagle Award for Best Performance by an Actress.
At age 16 she convinced her family to let her study in Switzerland
at one of the finest schools, Aiglon College, where she graduated with an Academic
diploma. Upon graduating, she spent the next year traveling through Asia, exploring
Europe and working as a social worker in India. She did manual labor work for
a summer before returning home. It was in Europe that she was introduced to
the world of nobility and married Count Carl von Bismarck. While she retains
the title of countess, Laura and Carl decided to part ways, but still remain
great friends to this day. Harring studied theater at the London Academy of
Performing Arts and is skilled in the French style of Commedia Dell' Arte as
well as in most of the Latin dances, including the Argentine Tango.
A versatile actress who has played a great diversity of roles
in her career, she co-starred in season 5, opposite Forrest Whitaker on FX's
critically acclaimed hit series, "The Shield," as Becca Doyle. Harring
can be seen in HBO's original hit movie, "Walkout," directed by Edward
James Olmos.
This spring you will see her opposite William Hurt and Gael
Garcia Bernal in Milo Addica's The King. A true chameleon, Laura plays a repressed
and sorrowful, Babtist ministers wife from a small town, in the heart of Texas.
She is currently starring as the subject of Nancy Drew's mystery in the upcoming
Nancy Drew film. Also, Laura will appear in David Lynch's new, highly anticipated
movie, Inland Empire.
